Sultana’s Dream: A Feminist Utopia and Selections from The Secluded Ones by Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain ★★★
Difficult Women by Roxane Gay A collection of marriage- and baby-normative stories with nearly identical protagonists. All formidably written of course.
Homesick for Another World by Ottessa Moshfegh Capably written single-formula stories that are casually fatphobic, ableist, dismissive of the other while centring another ‘other’.
The Witch and Other Stories by Anton Chekhov Incidentally, my favourite short stories by Chekhov are not found in this collection. They are: “At Christmas Time”, “The Horse-Stealers”, and “A Nincompoop”.
Bloodchild: And Other Stories by Octavia E. Butler “Bloodchild” is my favourite short story of hers. I would avoid “Near of Kin” and “Crossover”.
